Meet Seth Aitken
Attorney Seth Aitken is a long-time Swansea resident and Fall River attorney. He is an Army veteran, former Assistant District Attorney, and recently served as the City Administrator for the City of Fall River.Attorney Aitken’s legal career has focused primarily on criminal law, first as a prosecutor and more recently as a criminal defense attorney. However, over the years, Seth has also helped thousands of clients through real estate transactions, probate and family court matters, and civil litigation in both state and federal court.Seth grew up on a farm outside Worcester but has lived in Swansea with his wife, Jen, and their three sons, Shepherd, Harper, and Rex, for nearly the past twenty-five years.
Seth attended law school at Roger Williams University School of Law after serving eight years as an Army officer leading Combat Engineer soldiers on missions both overseas and here at home. After law school and immediately following his admission to the Massachusetts Bar, Seth was offered a position as an Assistant District Attorney in the Bristol County District Attorney’s Office, where he quickly earned a reputation with peers, defense attorneys, and judges for his relentless preparation and skill in trying difficult cases. After several years as an Assistant District Attorney, Seth accepted an opportunity to teach at the UMass Dartmouth School of Law, where, among other things, he taught Massachusetts Trial Practice to students who wanted to learn how to effectively try cases. While the experience helping to shape young lawyers was extremely rewarding, Seth found that he missed practicing law and the deep sense of purpose and mission that came from being in the courtroom every day.Seth left academia and formed a small law practice with his father, a veteran attorney, where they worked in many different areas of the law, helping clients move through some of life’s most difficult and complicated challenges. The firm grew tremendously, but when the elder Attorney Aitken retired, Seth decided again to seek a new opportunity to serve rather than remaining in private practice.Seth returned to the Bristol District Attorney’s office, where he was quickly promoted to a supervisory position overseeing cases scheduled for trial in the Fall River District Court. As a supervisor, Seth became a mentor and trainer to many new prosecutors, helping to refine each young lawyer’s approach to preparing and trying criminal cases.Seth left the District Attorney’s office in 2021 to join the City of Fall River’s legal department, where he was able to develop a keen understanding of the various intersections between criminal practice and municipal law. Within nine months, he was appointed City Administrator, where, for three years, he managed nearly a thousand employees and was responsible for implementing the Mayor’s vision for the City of Fall River. Now, having left the City for private practice, Seth has turned his sights toward the office where his legal career began.Seth envisions a District Attorney’s Office that actively works every day to be sure residents of Bristol County can feel safe in their homes, at work, and on the streets and sidewalks of our cities and towns. Currently, that’s not the case. This District Attorney’s Office has become dangerously and unapologetically complacent. The office has no leadership and no vision for making Bristol County safe again.Seth will ensure that anyone who harms or takes advantage of the most vulnerable among us – children, the elderly, and animals – will face coordinated, intensely aggressive prosecution by highly trained teams of prosecutors and law enforcement.
Rather than just passively hoping that police are doing what’s expected, Seth will build new collaborative relationships with local, state, and federal law enforcement so that Bristol County becomes the least welcoming, least comfortable place in Massachusetts for anyone who wants to commit a crime or become part of a gang.Rather than focusing solely on those few sensationalized cases that capture media attention, Seth will train and support his prosecutors to skillfully pursue the thousands of other everyday cases that may not garner headlines but profoundly affect the lives of everyday people. Instead of being cloistered behind a series of locked doors, Seth and the prosecutors in his office will be accountable, accessible, and responsive to the taxpayers and residents by actively engaging with the many different communities and populations that make up Bristol County.Attorney Seth Aitken has lived, worked, and raised his family in Bristol County for nearly twenty-five years. He cares deeply about the future of Bristol County’s cities and towns. As your District Attorney, he’s prepared to make Bristol County safe again.

Seth Aitken Announces Candidacy for Bristol County District Attorney,
Pledges to Restore Safety and Accountability
SWANSEA, MA – August 4, 2025 – Seth Aitken of Swansea, Republican Candidate for Bristol County District Attorney, today announced his campaign to bring leadership, safety, and accountability back to the Bristol County District Attorney’s Office.Aitken, a seasoned prosecutor and defense attorney having lived and worked for the past 24 years in Bristol County, stated, “I'm running for Bristol County District Attorney because our residents have the right to feel safe where they live and work. That peace of mind can’t happen under the current District Attorney. His lack of leadership, transparency, and accountability has eroded the public trust, weakened the impact of law enforcement in Bristol County, and made our residents unsafe.”Aitken highlighted critical issues within the current system, noting, “Over 97% of criminal cases begin and end in District Court, where the D.A. has assigned only twenty-five, mostly junior prosecutors to handle nearly 16,000 annual cases. Well-meaning young prosecutors are essentially being thrown to the wolves, understaffed and undertrained in some of the state’s busiest courts. That compromises safety.”Deeply rooted in Bristol County, Aitken emphasized his commitment to the community. “My priority is transparent collaboration between law enforcement and prosecution, ensuring crime is met with immediate, professional responses and serious consequences. As a former Army officer, prosecutor, and city administrator, I offer strong leadership and a clear vision for public safety.”If elected, Aitken pledges to foster an accessible and responsive District Attorney’s Office. “As D.A., I would be accessible to the public and would require the same of my team. As District Attorney, I will provide better training, support, and resources for prosecutors. I will address public corruption, increase collaboration with law enforcement, and make our cities and towns safe for law-abiding citizens. We will make Bristol County an extremely unwelcome place for criminals.”Attorney Aitken is licensed to practice law in Massachusetts State and Federal District Courts. He is an active-duty Army veteran and former Assistant District Attorney. Aitken also served for several years as Fall River City Administrator. His law practice is based in Fall River, focusing primarily on criminal defense and consumer protection litigation in Bristol County courts.Aitken has worked as a prosecutor in Fall River, New Bedford, Taunton, and Attleboro Courts, and has served as lead prosecutor in more than one hundred jury trials. As a result of his work as a prosecutor and now as a private attorney, Aitken is well-known and highly respected by lawyers, judges, and law enforcement across Bristol County.Prior to his legal career, Aitken served eight years as an Army Officer in construction and combat engineer units globally. He believes his military experience as a leader, mission planner, and problem-solver has uniquely prepared him to lead the Bristol County District Attorney’s Office to make our cities and towns safe again.
